Eine Portraitserie von den Menschen, welche auf der kapverdischen Insel Sal leben.

Sal, auf portugiesisch „Ilha do Sal“ (Insel des Salzes), ist eine Insel der Inselgruppe der Kap Verde, welche sich im Atlantik auf der Höhe von Senegal befindet. Sie gehört zu Portugal, da diese im 15. Jh.  von portugiesischen Seefahrern entdeckt und besiedelt wurde. Anfänglich betrieb man hauptsächlich Viehzucht, aber später im 17. Jh. kam man, um Salz zu gewinnen, daher auch der Name. Heute ist die grösste Saline (Anlage zur Gewinnung von Speisesalz.) ausser Betrieb und dient als Touristenattraktion und die Insel lebt auch hauptsächlich von dem Tourismus.

A portrait series of the people, who live on the Cape Verdean Island of Sal.

 Sal, in Portuguese “Ilha do Sal” (Island of Salt), is an island in the Cape Verde archipelago, which is in the Atlantic Ocean near Senegal. It belongs to Portugal, as it was discovered and colonized by Portuguese sailors in the 15th century. Initially, it was used for cattle breeding, but later in the 17th century salt was extracted, therefore its name. Today, the largest salt works is out of operation and serves as a tourist attraction and the island lives mainly from tourism.
